What is IPv6 and why does it matter?
IPv6 is the newest version of the internet protocol. It emerged because IPv4 addresses (like 192.168.1.1) are running out: only about 4.3 billion exist, not enough for every device in the world. IPv6 offers a practically unlimited number of addresses (like 2806:104e:...).
Do I need IPv6?
For normal browsing, it's not required. But having IPv6 can improve connectivity to modern services, gaming and video calls, and avoids techniques like CGNAT that sometimes degrade your connection. More and more services prefer it.
My provider doesn't have IPv6, what can I do?
You can ask your ISP for it (many already offer it but don't enable it by default). If your router supports it, sometimes just enabling it in the settings is enough. Meanwhile, IPv4 still works for everything.
